Organisers of the annual Theydon Bois Donkey Derby have been praised by Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing – after rain failed to scupper the event for the second time this year.
The event had been scheduled for July but was cancelled – for the first time in its 25-year history – because The Green was waterlogged.
Despite yet more heavy rain yesterday (Sunday) the re-scheduled event went ahead.
Mrs Laing said: “I am full of praise for everyone who braved the heavy rain and went out to raise money for so many excellent local charities and local organisations.
“Everyone was hoping that Sunday would be as nice as Saturday, however that was not to be the case.
“The organisers had everything ready on Saturday evening only to experience torrential rain on Sunday.
“Even so, it was still a great day with donkey races and other exciting events. Well done to everyone who put so much effort into it.”
