Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing backs community centre plans for St John’s Church
Ambitious plans for a new community centre to be attached to St John’s Church, Epping, have received the backing of Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing.
Drawings and a model of the £2m scheme were unveiled at the church’s Christmas tree festival on Friday (December 7).
Visitors could see a model of the proposed development, and a computer-generated walk-through of the new building which includes rooms for meetings and activities and a community café.
The church needs to raise £2m to fund the new building and has already raised almost £200,000.
A major fundraising appeal – The Heart of Epping Appeal - will be launched soon.
Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing, who was shown the plans and model of the building by Rev’d Geoffrey Connor, said: “The proposals are totally in keeping with the surrounding area and the facilities which are to be included in the new development will be a massive boost for Epping and its residents.
“The church has had this dream for decades now and I am delighted that its plans have moved on so dramatically in recent months.”
