Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing says the announcement that next year’s Tour de France will include a stage which will take in part of Epping Forest is “very exciting”.
The exact route has not yet been announced but it is expected that Epping New Road (and the Wake Arms) will feature as the cyclists make their way from Cambridge to the Olympic Stadium via Woodford Green.
Mrs Laing said: “It is very exciting that local people will be able to become involved in another international sporting event.
“I am also very pleased that these events encourage young people to take part in sports - regardless of their level of ability. I is not just the winning that counts, it is the taking part."
The Tour de France will be in the Epping Forest district on Monday, July 7 - the same date that the Olympic torch relay visited Waltham Abbey last year.
