Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing is inviting local people to ‘co-sponsor’ a draft law underpinning an EU referendum; supporting James Wharton MP’s EU Referendum Bill.
If successful, the Bill will lead to the first public vote on Europe for 40 years, after a renegotiation for a new deal in the EU.
Co-sponsors can back the Bill using a newly innovated online co-sponsoring form as part of the http://www.letbritaindecide.com/ campaign.
Mrs Laing said: “I know how strongly people who live in my constituency feel about our relationship with the European Union.
"I am sure a great many of them will want to put their names to this Bill to make sure it has the widest possible public support.
"There is one really simple and obvious fact that is too often overlooked by the media - which is that we will only get a Referendum on Europe if we get a majority Conservative Government at the next General Election.
"Any more messing about with minority parties and forming coalitions will mean no Referendum - and no sorting out the EU!"
